Apple for indians

It wouldn't be wrong to call the Apple iPad a revolutionary product. With the iPad, Apple opened the floodgates of the tablet market. It provided us with a product that is neither a mobile or a PC, instead it has its own niche area. After Apple's adventure, almost everybody has ventured into the tablet market. Today, even unknown companies like Whitebox have been favored with IT success, thanks to the tablet. Even though we are having a tablet overdose, the iPad is still one device that is looked up to.

Apple released its iPad 2 in the first quarter of 2011 after much anticipation. Although initially it was expected to sell around half a million iPads, Apple exceeded its own expectations. The current number of iPads sold rests at around 1 Million.

But the Apple iPad 2 is an expensive gadget. The lowest model (16 GB Wi-Fi) costs around $499 (Rs. 22,000 approx.) while the most expensive one (64 GB Wi-Fi + 3G) costs around $829 (Rs. 37,000 approx.). So, anyone who goes in for an iPad 2 would like to know what he/she is getting at.

Specs: Picking up where the iPad left off, the iPad 2 is powered by a 1 GHz dual-core A5 processor. It has 512 MB RAM. It is available in 16GB/32GB/64GB storage options. The iPad 2 has a 9.7" capacitive touchscreen display. This iPad runs on iOS 4.3 but can be updated to the iOS 5.0 as soon as it releases. It has a 10 hour battery life and is available in White and Black color options.

Pros: iPad 2 has a thin and light body that can be easily carried around. The GPU is expected to be 9x faster. It is equipped with both front and back cameras that utilize Apple's Facetime to give you enhanced video interface. It also provides an enhanced browsing interface that makes surfing easier and faster.

Apple has also provided us with an improved Homesharing app, which can ensure easier transfer of content between the iPad 2 and other gadgets.
aCons:  The screen, though an upgrade to the previous iPad doesn't live up to the expectations. If you are going in for an iPad because of its graphics, you should rather wait for theiPad 3, that willl be equipped with enhanced Retina display. Unlike its rivals, the iPad 2 doesn't offer a MicroSD slot, USB functionality or even a removable battery. Although, Apple does offer an external HD connection kit, but that would cost you $39 (Rs. 1800 approx.). Would you really want to go in for that after shelling so much moolah for the iPad 2?

Verdict: The iPad 2 is definitely an upgrade to the previous iPad. It is an attractive gadget armed with enhanced software capabilities, extra power and sleek design.

But, if you already own an iPad, you should wait for the iPad 3 to upgrade.
